Firm Files Cert. Petition Involving “Certificate of Appealability” Standard in AEDPA

On December 7, 2023, Daniel Woofter filed a Cert. Petition on behalf of his client DeAndre Gordon in Gordon v. May, No. 23-629 (U.S.), asking the Supreme Court to resolve an entrenched circuit split over the standard that a state prison must meet to appeal the denial of his federal habeas petition under the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996.
